HISTORICAL VENICE TRAIN DEPOT
AND HAVE A BOX/BASKET LUNCH AT MAXINE BARRITT PARK

P Built in 1926 and 1927 the Historical Venice Train Depot was listed in 1989 with the National Register of Historical Places and the Florida Master Site File of Historic Structures. It is the last Depot still standing in all of Sarasota County. We can thank a “Woman”, Mrs. Potter Palmer who in 1910 required that the railroad be extended from Sarasota to Venice as a prerequisite to her purchase of more than 60,000 acres of land. This land included what is now the city of Venice and Venice Beach. Invite your Spouse, your significant other, or your friend and let’s visit the Train Depot where highly trained volunteer Docents will conduct a tour and tell us more about its interesting history. We will visit there for approximately an hour and then proceed to Maxine Barritt Park. There you can enjoy your own box/basket lunch. You can decide whether you want to prepare it as groups or as individuals – it’s all up to you it’s your day for fun and sun. We will be using one of the non-reserved Pavilions in the park- everything will be very casual. We can stroll on the beach, walk around the park or just lounge around the pavilion after lunch. Maybe someone has a couple of Frisbees or kites we can use? Bring chairs, table cloths, hand wipes, hats, sun screen, etc.

We hosted this event for the first time last September and it was a huge success. So call early if you plan to attend.
